Wetting Patterns in a Subsurface Irrigation System Using Reservoirs of Different Permeabilities: Experimental and HYDRUS-2D/3D Modeling

Precipitation in arid lands is low and often highly variable; therefore, efficient irrigation the best approach for managing limited water supplies irregular precipitation events establishing seedlings. The HYDRUS-2D/3D software a useful tool simulating content distribution design of subsurface systems, determining proper locations reservoir plant, scheduling maximizing use efficiency. In this study, wetting patterns around reservoirs with different permeabilities (low, medium, high) were assessed field simulated using software. Different amounts animal manure wheat straw mixed clay fractions to produce permeabilities. results showed that highest soil was observed near reservoir, it decreased distancing from reservoir. high permeability treatment (with saturated hydraulic conductivity, Ks = 0.2 cm/day), large volume released almost three days, so more deep-percolated lowered available plant roots. medium treatments (Ks 0.08, 0.06 cm/day, respectively), slowly leaked, maximum 20–40 cm layer over time. able simulate flow during growth period plants, correspondence between measured contents (R2 0.90–0.95), which higher lower discharges.
